Import KML / KMZ
Import Google Earth KML or KMZ data with KML-specific layer categories and output settings.
Overview
KML and KMZ files use a dedicated import dialog. This workflow can import points, labels, lines, areas, hatch fill features, and images depending on what is found in the source file.

KML / KMZ Layers
| Layer Category | Description |
|---|---|
| Features Data | General feature data detected in the source. |
| Point Features | Placemark point geometry. |
| Label Features | Text labels created from KML label information. |
| Line Features | LineString geometry. |
| Area Features | Polygon geometry. |
| Hatch Fill Features | Polygon fill or hatch-style features when available. |
Output Settings
| Setting | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Layer Prefix | Adds a prefix such as KML to created drawing layers. |
| Use KML colors/styles | Uses colors or styles defined in the source KML/KMZ when available. |
| Points, Polylines, Polygons, Images | Controls which object types are created from the selected KML/KMZ source. |
Import Steps
- Select the KML/KMZ file in the source picker.
- Review the detected layer categories.
- Clear any categories you do not want to import.
- Set the layer prefix and output object types.
- Click OK.
