Import OSM Vector Data
Start the OpenStreetMap vector import workflow from the Background Maps tab.
Overview
The Import OSM Vector Data button at the bottom of the Background Maps tab starts the SPCAD OSM import command from the CAD command line.
This command is separate from loading a raster background map. Background Maps display imagery, while OSM import brings vector data into the drawing.
Start OSM Import
- Assign CRS to the drawing.
- Open SPCAD Palette > Web Maps > Background Maps.
- Click Import OSM Vector Data.
- Continue with the OSM import prompts or dialog shown by SPCAD.
Requirements
| Requirement | Description |
|---|---|
| CRS | The button is enabled only when the drawing has CRS information available through the palette refresh logic. |
| Internet connection | OSM vector import requires access to online OpenStreetMap data. |
| Correct drawing area | Prepare or zoom to the intended area before starting import, depending on the OSM import workflow used in your SPCAD build. |
Background Map vs OSM Vector Data
| Workflow | Result |
|---|---|
| Load Background Map | Creates a raster image used as a visual basemap. |
| Import OSM Vector Data | Creates CAD vector entities from OSM data, depending on the OSM import settings. |
