Export Parcel to KML Tool SPCAD: Essential for Cadaster

Managing and sharing parcel data in a spatial format is vital in cadastral work. The Export Parcel to KML tool in SPCAD offers a powerful solution by allowing you to convert parcel data into a KML (Keyhole Markup Language) file. This format is essential for visualizing parcels in geographic information systems (GIS) and tools like Google Earth. The tool converts parcel coordinates from your CAD drawing into geographic coordinates based on the coordinate system you’ve assigned, making it easy to integrate your data into various mapping applications.

Why Export Parcel Information to a KML File?

Exporting parcels to a KML file enhances data visualization. KML files enable you to see parcels on a map, providing a clear geographic context. You can overlay parcels on satellite images, making it easier to analyze the spatial relationships between different parcels and surrounding features. This visual perspective is crucial for planning, development, and environmental studies.

Steps to Export Parcel to KML

Exporting parcels to a KML file in SPCAD is a straightforward process:

1. Assign a coordinate system to your drawing. Before exporting, ensure your CAD drawing has a coordinate system assigned. You can do this by using the `ACS_SP` command or checking the status bar on the far left to confirm the assignment.

2. Initiate the Export Parcel to KML tool. Click the “XLKML” button in the Cadaster panel or type `XLKML_SP` in the command line to activate the tool.

3. Then, name your KML file. A dialogue box will appear where you can type a name for the file. Choose a descriptive name that reflects the content, making it easier to identify later.

4. Finally, save the file. Click ‘Save’ to store the KML file in your desired location. You can choose any directory on your computer or network where you can easily access the file for further use or sharing.
